Santa Fe Colombia Downhill Biking Tour, 1 Day

Days: 1
EFFORT: Moderate to Challenging
FROM: $100

Activities: Biking, Sightseeing, Eco- Cultural Adventures

Our signature mountain bike tour is the best one-day downhill ride in all of Antioquia – and one of our favorite in all of Colombia!

From the highlands, through cloud forests, we descend for more than 2100 vertical meters down into the Cauca River Gorge, over 35km in length, along exuberant landscapes and far reaching, breathtaking views to the valleys below. Passing through various ecosystems, colorful towns and farmlands, this full day of adventure offers varied riding terrain, the main trail ridable for anyone who can ride a bike, however there are many “single track” trail options that can be taken for those who want to raise their pulse a little. The single track options snake through the main trail so the group is constantly meeting up throughout the tour. Expert biking guides, top quality bikes and gear, all followed by professional vehicle support the entire tour.

The tour ends just outside of Santa Fe, a very historically significant and patrimonial city of Colombia (special request), and if opted, the day will finish off in the center of town, where you can walk around and experience the quaint and colorful town, or, the more popular option; After 5-6 hours riding down a mountain, from the cool crisp mountain air at over 2700m, down into the tropical heat at 900m, it’s only natural to want to jump in a pool and cool off, so bring a towel because that’s just what we do!

Often imitated but never duplicated, we are the foremost mountain biking company in Colombia. Only we offer these high quality points.

We drive north from Medellin, along the “milky way”; a dairy paradise region filled with green pastures, and beautiful haciendas. We gain altitude to a ridge at 2,700 meters where we prepare our dual suspension bikes for the big descent. Our exploration starts in a Paramo (highland), an Andean ecosystem with endemic flora and fauna, bright purple and colorful flowers and unique birds. After stopping for a hearty authentic Colombian lunch in a small pueblo atop a mountain, we continue our descent along a narrow, single lane road. The road feels ethereal, twists and turns with seemingly no end and the views seen from the steep cliff sides are breath taking. We reach a lush cloud forest with open views to the Cauca River valley and beyond. The Cauca is Colombia’s second most significant river ending in the Atlantic Ocean. To keep our legs pumping we are also challenged with a small 5km ascent right in the middle of the tour. During the day we stop for photos that will be shared with the group. Refueled with snacks and drinks we continue our downhill ride. The environment quickly changes into tropical lowlands, adorned with bananas, mangos, coffee, cacao, and yucca plantations. The heat rises and we can witness more exotic tropical birds. More advanced riders, can opt for alternative single trails throughout the run, true bike junkies will appreciate the technical sections and can meet up with the group at various crossroads.
The ride ends in the small village of Sopetran where we load up and we return to Medellin.

*If special requested, we continue to nearby Santa Fe de Antioquia. This town is a world heritage site, packed with history, plazas, churches and beautiful colonial architecture. After exploring for souvenirs we return to Medellin. (L)
