You haven’t really experienced Santander without doing a little whitewater rafting. The Suarez River, just an hour from San Gil, is one of the top high-volume run in the country. You get thrilling rapids and huge waves, starting with some Class III’s and increasingly larger until the last section of Class V’s. Rafters have been known to experience huge waves, depending on the weather and the water levels. In the case of wipeouts, there are pools at the end of each rapid which make this river a safe, commercial-grade run.

Itinerary

We begin our whitewater adventure with an early start, departing from San Gil at 9:00am. We pass through gorgeous landscape of the region’s agriculture. We have a short safety briefing before taking to the water. Over the next 3 hours, we will run the best section of this Class III, IV and even V rapids. The run is sustained, with medium volume and a combination of technical and powerful paddling. When we’re not digging deep to get past the next rapid, we enjoy the scenery of the gorge and may spot some of the native bird species in the trees. We enjoy a tasty and nutritious riverfront snacks before wereturn to San Gil in the mid afternoon.
